Community

Working with the community has always been a priority of St Marys Cement, providing dependable economic opportunity to the residents of the town, while contributing to community building efforts and interests. The Community Liaison Community (CLC) works to ensure that residents are informed of the work that St Marys Cement is doing, and that they have a forum to ask questions or raise concerns. It was formed to build on the relationship between the community members of St. Marys and the St Marys Cement Plant.

St Marys Cement has contributed resources, land, materials and more to strengthen the community. SMC was instrumental in the opening of St. Mary Memorial Hospital in 1950, and since then, has donated land for the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame. This donation provided resources for the growth of the swimming quarry, the Pyramid Centre, and the redevelopment of Cadzow Park. Moreover, this continued support for community initiatives like hockey teams and the local hospice.

Sustainability

Listening to the community and working with regulatory agencies and environmental specialists, the St Marys Cement Plant is intent on identifying opportunities to mitigate and manage its effect on the environment and residents. Working through the community Liaison Committee, the St Marys Cement Plant provides a structured approach to collect and respond to our neighbors' feedback and concerns.

Past Projects

Noise Reduction

St Marys Cement has listened to calls from local residents to minimize noise and traffic from the plant and provides resources to better address community concerns.

The St Marys Cement Plant works with the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks to follow appropriate regulatory guidelines.
